Routines: Friend or Foe???

We have survived three weeks and two days of school at our house.  This school year has been met with new classes, new friends, new activities and even new routines.  We have the same routine as we get up in the morning, go to school, come home from school, grocery shopping, homework time, working out, and going to bed.  We even have the same routines in church!!!  Yes, comfort can be found in routines.  Routines makes us feel secure, and safe.  But does our routines become a web that entangles us from enjoying life and new experiences?  I decided to test my theory one afternoon and change the route I normally walk.  At first, I was nervous and afraid.  Perhaps those feelings came from the dog I encountered that day!!!  I swore if I made it home alive, I would never change my routine again.   But as I pushed forward with fear and trembling, I discovered  something else;  a new row of houses, new trees but mostly new scenery.  This new scenery changed my walk and my attitude that day.  I fully believe that routines are beneficial.  But I have also come to appreciate those days when I live dangerously, I take a different route to school.  I have even become a rebel in the grocery store starting in the frozen food section rather than the produce aisle.  I have even challenged myself to break out of the routines of ministry, in doing so, I have discovered new opportunities to share the Gospel.  I would encourage all of us to not be afraid of changing our routines, perhaps it will help us gain a new insight.

Until next time…..Tom
