First Day of School

I feel like a child about to start a new year of school.  My stomach is in a knot, my hands are sweating and I have feelings of excitement and despair.  It’s been a long time since I have entered the classroom, but today, I am entering the unconventional classroom of life, creating a blog.  I am a husband, father, preacher and overall “nerd”.  My days are filled with laughter, excitement and wonder.  As we begin another school year, I will offer fatherly words of wisdom: “play nice, do your best and don’t forget your lunch money.”  But if I’m honest, I would love to tell them: DON’T BE NORMAL!!!    Normal is an interesting word.  It means usual, ordinary, and not strange.  I’ve never been a fan of normal.  I’ve never been afraid to color outside the lines or go play in the rain!!!  One of my all time favorite movies is “Mame” starring Lucille Ball.  (I told you I was a nerd) The character Mame was never afraid of living life to fullest, no matter the difficulty.  She embraced the new beginnings of life with grace, laughter and love.  I find comfort in knowing that God does not call us to be “normal”, rather God calls us to be faithful.  I encourage each and every one of us to not take ourselves too seriously, to be silly but mostly,  LAUGH!!!  Thank you for joining me in this journey called blogging.  I make no promises except this journey will be fun, “real” and far from normal.

Until Next Time….Tom
